Publication Policies

  • The publication of research previously published or translated is prohibited, even with the author’s consent, as this contradicts the principle of originality.
  • Research submitted to the journal shall be published only after successfully passing a rigorous peer-review process conducted by specialized experts with recognized research expertise and distinguished academic standing, who determine the suitability of the research for publication.
  • The Editorial Board is responsible for updating the categories of articles published in the journal, including accepted peer-reviewed scientific articles and their specializations.
  • Articles previously presented at scientific conferences may be published, provided that they have not been fully published in the conference proceedings. If only the abstract has been published previously, this must be disclosed on the first page of the research upon submission to the journal. However, if the full paper has already been published within the conference proceedings, it may not be republished unless substantial modifications amounting to at least 50% of the scientific content have been made and approved by the Editorial Board after review.
  • Articles prepared on behalf of other entities may be submitted, provided that approval is obtained from the relevant entity and that the research has not been previously published through any recognized publication medium.

  • Members of the Editorial Board may submit their scientific articles for publication in the Journal of Security Research and Studies, and the publication request shall be referred to the Editor-in-Chief for supervision.
  • The Journal of Security Research and Studies reserves the right to republish previously published articles in special issues or translate them after contacting the author, whether in print, electronically, or by any other means. The journal may also authorize the inclusion of articles in databases or various information systems, whether for compensation or free of charge, in accordance with the journal’s policies.
  • The journal has the right to nominate articles published therein for participation in relevant scientific competitions and awards, according to the criteria of the organizing body, after notifying the researcher.
  • The researcher undertakes that the research has not previously been published or accepted for publication in another journal, nor submitted for publication elsewhere simultaneously until the completion of the publication procedures.
  • The content of the scientific work must not conflict with the religious, social, political, or security values, or with the laws and regulations applicable within the State of Kuwait.

Copyrights

  • The author(s) retain full copyright ownership of their research work, while granting the Journal of Security Research and Studies the right of first publication.
  • The same research may not be republished on any other platform or publishing house until five years have passed from the date of original publication, or with written approval from the Editor-in-Chief of the journal, provided that the original source is acknowledged upon republication.
  • Authors are prohibited, prior to submission to the Journal of Security Research and Studies, from publishing their articles on electronic platforms such as institutional repositories, personal websites, or preprint platforms.
  • No fees shall be imposed on researchers for the peer-review or publication process. The journal bears all publication costs according to the approved funding system. Financial details related to peer-review, editing, and printing rewards are regulated under the journal’s administrative and financial regulations in compliance with COPE standards.
  • The Journal of Security Research and Studies adheres to the Open Access policy, and all published articles are made freely available on the journal’s official website, ensuring unrestricted access to knowledge without financial or institutional barriers.

Editorial and Publication Procedures

  • The editorial process begins upon receipt of the publication request from the corresponding author, and declaration and undertaking forms must be received from each author.
  • The submitted research undergoes an initial screening in accordance with the rules approved by the Editorial Board. Based on the results of the initial screening, the research may be rejected, revisions may be requested, or it may be referred to the peer-review process within fifteen working days.
  • After passing the initial screening, the research is referred to the peer-review process conducted according to the journal’s approved regulations. Based on the review results, one of the following editorial decisions shall be taken:
    • Reject the Research: If it is found not to comply with the scientific standards or objectives of the journal.
    • Request Major Revisions: If the research requires improvements in the theoretical framework or methodology to become suitable for publication, after which the revised (compliant) version of the research shall be returned to the same reviewers for re-evaluation.
    • Request Minor Revisions: If the research requires improvements that do not involve changes to the theoretical framework or methodology, the supervisor of the review process may accept the research without resubmitting it to the reviewers.
    • Conditional Acceptance of the Research: In this case, the research enters the editing stage and shall be accepted upon the researcher’s completion of the formal and scientific requirements set by the Editorial Board or editorial team.
    • Approval of the Research for Publication: The research shall be approved if it fulfills all scientific and formal requirements in accordance with the comments of the reviewers and Editorial Board members, and it then enters the production stage in preparation for publication.
  • The research enters the language editing and production stage before publication in its designated issue. A copy shall be sent to the researcher for review and comments within one week from the date of receipt. If no response is received within the specified period, publication of the research shall be rescheduled until the researcher responds.
  • The Editorial Board determines the editorial mechanism adopted in accordance with disciplinary norms to ensure the quality and impartiality of the editorial process, including the following mechanisms:
    • Editor-in-Chief Supervision Mechanism for Peer Review: The Editor-in-Chief supervises the peer-review process and is committed to presenting submitted research for initial screening to the relevant Editorial Board member before proceeding with the review process.
    • Editorial Board Supervision Mechanism for Peer Review: The relevant Editorial Board member supervises the peer-review process, while the Editor-in-Chief approves editorial decisions, and all correspondence related to editorial decisions is conducted through the Editor-in-Chief.
    • When necessary, the Editorial Board member supervising the peer-review process may seek the assistance of a volunteer Associate Editor to perform tasks assigned by the Editorial Board member related to the editorial process, provided that the Editorial Board approves such appointment and that the Associate Editor holds a doctoral degree and specializes in the subject matter of the research.
  • If the researcher delays making the required revisions to the research for more than one month from the date of receiving the journal’s response, this shall be considered a withdrawal from publication unless the researcher provides a compelling excuse accepted by the Editor-in-Chief for continuation of the procedures.
  • If the researcher refuses to comply with or ignores the reviewers’ comments or the journal’s observations, this shall be considered a withdrawal from completing the publication procedures, and the research shall be officially deemed withdrawn from the journal. If the researcher refuses to make the required revisions, they shall be prohibited from publishing for two years.
  • The researcher has the right to request correction of their published or accepted research in the event of a material publishing error or if an error occurred in good faith by the researcher.
  • For published articles, the correction shall be published on the journal’s website and in the next printed issue of the journal.
  • For accepted but unpublished articles, corrections shall be made after approval by the Editor-in-Chief.
